Shadowfix™ Patch Notes
What changed in each release.
[1.0.8.0] - 2026-09-10
Changed
- Improved license validation and recovery behavior so missing licenses are distinguished from validation or stored-license errors.
- Updated the telemetry preview to show the actual failure-report fields and current installed Shadowfix version, and clarified the accompanying disclosure wording.
- Improved startup sequencing for license validation and background CounterPatch updates.
Fixed
- Fixed startup and license recovery cases that could incorrectly return users to the first-run screen after a validation failure.
- Improved handling of damaged or unreadable stored license data.
- Improved installer upgrade reliability and compatibility with WinUI runtime packaging.
- Fixed version information shown in diagnostic and telemetry-related screens.
Security
- Removed recovered license keys from diagnostic logging.
[1.0.7.0] - 2026-08-14
Added
- Added System, Light, and Dark appearance modes. System mode follows the current Windows appearance setting, and the selected mode is remembered between launches.
- Added theme-aware support for Windows High Contrast colors.
Changed
- Reworked the Shadowfix interface to use a consistent theme-aware color system across the main screen, Settings, Activity Log, status indicators, update notices, cards, buttons, and other controls.
- Improved accessibility for interactive controls and dynamic status messages, including screen-reader-friendly names and live status announcements.
- Improved window sizing behavior to keep the interface readable on smaller displays.
Fixed
- Fixed corrupted or incorrectly rendered interface symbols in several buttons, status indicators, history entries, and license information.
- Reverting a privacy patch now also disables that patch in preferences and immediately rescans the system so the displayed status reflects the reverted state.
[1.0.6.0] - 2026-07-24
Adds ShadowScan, a companion scanner that reports what is physically connected to your machine.
Added
- Connected Device Inventory (beta), under Settings. Shows what is physically attached to your machine, off by default and run only when you press scan.
[1.0.5.4] - 2026-07-23
Fixed
- Settings now shows all four parts of the version number.
- Updates now install correctly when only the fourth part of the version number changes.
[1.0.5.3] - 2026-07-23
Fixed
- Counter-patch downloads now succeed. The file was being checked before it had finished downloading, so verification failed every time.
- Applying a counter-patch no longer replaces your existing patch catalog.
[1.0.5.1] - 2026-07-23
Changed
- Updates to the counter-patch service and the platform client.
[1.0.5.0] - 2026-07-20
Added
- New and hardened privacy patches covering telemetry, error reporting, cloud content and Windows Spotlight.
Changed
- "Disable Cortana" is now "Disable Copilot & Web Results in Search", reflecting what the setting actually controls in current Windows.
Fixed
- In-app updates now upgrade the existing installation in place instead of leaving multiple copies installed.
Security
- Counter-patches are now signed and verified before they are applied, so a compromised server or a tampered local file cannot inject patches.
[1.0.4.0] - 2026-06-09
Added
- History now shows when a patch was automatically re-applied.
Changed
- History entries now show the full date and time.
Fixed
- Reverting a patch now sticks. The background verify task no longer re-applies it or reports it as "restored automatically".
- The background verify task now runs as the signed-in user, so your per-user patch preferences are read correctly.
[1.0.3.2] - 2026-05-24
Fixed
- In-app updates no longer fail silently. Shadowfix was closing before the Windows elevation prompt could appear, so the prompt was dismissed and the update never ran.
- Restored the publisher details shown in the application file's properties, which an earlier build change had cleared.
[1.0.3.1] - 2026-05-24
Maintenance release.
[1.0.3] - 2026-05-24
Fixed
- Shadowfix now requests administrator rights at launch, fixing the access-denied failures some patches hit on protected registry locations.
- The installer now includes the Windows App SDK runtime, so installation no longer fails on machines that do not already have it.
- Your first-run telemetry choice can no longer be lost if the app restarts for elevation while saving it.
[1.0.2] - 2026-05-22
Maintenance release.
[1.0.1] - 2026-05-20
Added
- Diagnostic logging, written to your local application data folder and kept for seven days, so failures leave a record.
Fixed
- A license that cannot be re-activated after a reinstall now falls back to the normal setup prompt instead of leaving the app in a confusing state.
[1.0.0] - 2026-05-18
First release of Shadowfix.
Added
- A curated catalog of Windows privacy settings, each one individually selectable and fully reversible.
- A background task that re-applies your settings when a Windows update reverts them.
- Counter-patches, so new privacy fixes can reach you without waiting for an app update.
- History, recording what changed with the before and after state of every action, and an export option.
- Licensing with a trial, activation, and per-device seats, including recovery of your license after a reinstall.
- Optional anonymous telemetry, off unless you turn it on when first asked.
