Privacy Policy
Shadowridge Systems LLC Effective Date: May 6, 2026 Last Updated: May 12, 2026
1. Overview
Shadowridge Systems LLC ("Shadowridge," "we," "us," or "our") built Shadowfix™ on a simple principle: a privacy tool should not collect your personal information. This policy explains what we collect, what we do not collect, and how we handle the minimal data the Service requires to function.
2. What We Do Not Collect
We do not collect:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Your IP address (beyond what your payment processor handles)
- Your location
- Information about your files, documents, or usage patterns
- Any personally identifying information
Shadowfix is designed to be purchased and used anonymously. We cannot identify you from your license key, and we do not attempt to.
3. What We Collect
3.1 License Data
When you purchase a subscription, Stripe processes your payment and issues a license key. We store:
- Your license key (as a cryptographic hash — we never store the plaintext)
- Your license type (monthly, annual, etc.)
- Your subscription status and expiry date
- A hardware fingerprint hash of your machine — a SHA-256 hash derived from your CPU ID, motherboard UUID, and primary disk serial number. This hash is used solely to bind your license seat to your machine for revalidation and recovery. It is a one-way hash and cannot be reversed to identify you, your hardware, or your location.
None of this data is linked to your identity.
Silent license recovery: On reinstall, if no license is found in local storage, Shadowfix automatically sends your hardware fingerprint hash to our servers to check whether an active license exists for your machine. If one is found, it is re-activated silently. No additional data is transmitted beyond the fingerprint hash already used for license validation. This process requires no action from you and involves no personal information.
3.2 Telemetry (Opt-In Only)
If you choose to opt in to telemetry, Shadowfix may report:
- The patch ID and name of any patch that failed to apply
- The error message associated with the failure
- Your Shadowfix version number
- Your Windows version
Telemetry is disabled by default. You can opt in or out at any time from Settings. No telemetry is sent unless you explicitly enable it. Telemetry data is used solely to improve patch reliability and is never sold or shared with third parties.
3.3 Update Checks
Shadowfix periodically checks for software updates. This check sends your current Shadowfix version and your Windows version to our servers to determine if an update is available. No other information is transmitted.
4. Payment Processing
All payments are processed by Stripe. Stripe handles your payment card information directly — it never passes through our servers, and we never store it. Stripe's privacy policy is available at stripe.com/privacy.
5. How We Use Data
We use the data described above solely to:
- Validate your license and deliver the Service
- Recover your license automatically after reinstall
- Deliver software updates
- Improve patch reliability (telemetry, opt-in only)
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the Service.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers. We share data only with:
- Stripe — for payment processing
- Law enforcement — if required by a valid legal order. Because we do not collect personal information, we have very little to provide.
7. Data Retention
License data is retained for the life of your subscription and for a reasonable period afterward for accounting and legal compliance purposes. Telemetry data, if you opt in, is retained for up to 12 months and then deleted.
8. Security
We use industry-standard security practices including encryption in transit (TLS), cryptographic hashing of sensitive values, and access controls. Your license key is stored in Windows Credential Manager on your machine — the same secure storage Windows uses for saved passwords.
9. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy at shadowridgesystems.com/legal/privacy with a new effective date. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
